Scales | Craft Foam Chronicles

This is my second proper creation using craft foam. I made this a few months ago with no real direction on where I wanted to go with it. I just wanted to create something a little different from what I usually made.

The headpiece was the first piece that I worked on. I used Fosshape for the base and my trusty glue gun to put it all together. The scales were hand-cut by me.

The top was created because the headpiece was just screaming for a matching something. I was thinking of creating an entire outfit from head to toe with the craft foam, but it seemed complete with just the top and headpiece.

It’s not perfect. There’s definitely room for improving this for future creations. But for a first time piece, it’s not too shabby! I had originally intended on painting it, but I’ve been indecisive on what colours it should be. And so it remains as white as snow.

Now to find room for it…

Trying Out Acrylics | Painting

My drawing skills are pretty terrible, but lately I’ve been looking for other ways besides sewing and photography to stay creative.

I’ve been playing around with pencil drawings and have even dabbled a bit with oil pastels. So far, so good. But I still wanted to try more. Enter, acrylic paints.

I’ve painted pieces of wood, clothing, etc. before, but to paint something from scratch is still new to me. It was pretty much a learn-as-you-go kind of thing when I was painting this picture.

There are a few things that I’d improve if I created this again or something similar, but I’m quite happy with the results. My favourite part is the tree. I’m quite pleased with the blending that I did on it. Overall, it’s not bad for a first time effort!

I’m definitely going to explore this medium a bit more and see what happens. With some of the dreams that I’ve been having lately, this might be the way to go with putting them down to paper.

Until the next adventure…
